// meet the team - tony
Experience... I first started training with weights in an old PCYC when I was 15
(that’s 1992!) but at that time was more focused on martial arts. When I
was 18 I moved next door to the world champion kickboxer and began
training with him 5days a week, morning and night. I would run 6km with
him in the morning, thinking I was doing well to keep up, and then on
the last hilly stretch home he would sprint off leaving me breathless
and heartbroken. Six intense months later I became competitive and was a
successful amateur fighter which was a fantastic experience, but later
left the sport and began weight training, which became my passion.
Latest achievements... Last year I competed in the INBA (International
Natural Bodybuilding Association). On 17 May 2009 I came 2nd in the
Brisbane Novice division. Four months later I came 2nd (again!) in the
Queensland Men’s Open. This qualified me for the Natural Olympia and on
15-18 Oct I competed on the Gold Coast against international competitors
and came fourth.
Qualifications... Cert IV qualified personal trainer. Qualified pilates instructor and
Physique Conditioning & Contest Preparation Coach. I am currently
studying nursing at USC.
I got started in the fitness industry...
after leaving the army in 2007. My first job qualified was at Insight.
At the club you will find me...
on stage, under the lights. I do pilates classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
My weekly training routine... A very important factor in my training is my approach to daily tasks. In
Pilates I emphasize the importance of good habit and I like to practice
what I preach. I also train with weights on a varying program which
generally never strays too far from a two, or three, day split as I find
I need to hit each muscle more than once per week.
Why you love working at Insight... in one word…culture. The clients, the staff, the approach to training, the never ending source of new information.
Words of wisdom..."Nothing is more important than the concept of improvement. Every time I
go to the gym, I do so with the predetermined purpose to improve”
